For a quarter of a century, Perth metal heavyweights Enforce have been carving their name into Australia’s underground with relentless riffs, old-school aggression, and a legacy that refuses to fade. Now, 25 years after the release of their ferocious debut album Campfire Night, the band is gearing up for a special anniversary show on Saturday 6th December that’s set to unleash all the raw power and attitude that made them a force in the first place. We get a few words from main man and original member Guy Bell to talk memories, milestones, and what fans can expect when they celebrate this iconic release on stage.
Looking back 25 years, what do you remember most vividly about the making of your debut album?
There was "no' digital back then, so it was done reel to reel. A lot of drop in re-recordings if you stuffed things up and having a tight budget and 5-day time limit, we made sure we knew the songs backwards before we committed.
How has the Perth metal scene changed since you first released that record in the late ‘90s/early 2000s?
A lot less bands and promoters and venues but as we all did back then we came together to catch up more as the internet was non-existent. You wanted to know what was going on with bands and people you went to a gig 🙂
When you listen to that first album now, what stands out to you — something you’re still proud of, or maybe something you’d do differently today?
Wouldn't change anything, to this day we still try and capture that non digital sound as it's rawer and live.
Can you tell us about the influences and mindset you had when writing those songs compared to how you approach songwriting now?
Depends on the personalities at the time, Guy - Thrash, Graeme - death/Thrash, Rob - death/black and Thomas - Punk is what created campfire night. Obviously topics at the time in the world but mostly every album that has been done in the timeline it released usually incorporates the members who are making it.
What was the local reception like when the debut dropped — any memorable shows, reviews, or reactions from that time?
The album got raving reviews as it was the reason we were approached by a label in Singapore. On the release of the album, we lost our drummer and bass player to a spinal injury and family loss, so the band never really captured it's full potential at the time. so, this show on December 6th will be the only time we have played it in full.

How has the band’s lineup and chemistry evolved over the years?
Enforce curse of evolving members lives on LOL!!! We have 1 original member left but they always seem to find others to carry the torch. Enforce is a band who caters to the wider metal audience and each member energy and musicianship show that live on stage.
Are there any stories or behind-the-scenes moments from the recording sessions that people might not know?
It was hectic, It was a long time ago, but we had a photo of the smoke butt sand tray somewhere?.. you can say the drummer and bass player at the time had a lot of nerve staking moments and takes to get it right. 🙂
What does it mean to you personally to have the band still be active 25 years later?
Still means we are having fun and enjoying it. In 2026 the name Enforce would have been active for 30 years from it's formation. Has it really been that long? Makes you feel a tad old lol!!!
Will there be another studio album release for Enforce in the near future?
Yes, we have 3 songs already written and we have played 2 live so far to see if people like them. when we hit the magic number 8 we will release another album. Hoping in the next few years.
Finally, what advice would you give to younger metal bands starting out today?
Always have fun... because there is no money in it. 🙂
