From the name and the logo, gotta say I expected flat out straight-forward thrash metal. And whilst some speed and riffs are there, I was surprised to hear a more modern melodic sound with a bit of substance and a unique style to take in. Kinda in the vein of Machine Head or Trivium, or maybe even a touch of Mudvayne or Karnivool (!?)… complete with slick production, orchestrations (from Andy Gillen of Mors Principium Est no less) and catchy powerful clean singing, but blended in with intricate guitars and drums it is certainly an interesting listen.
Triple Kill hail from Melbourne, their previous album is from 2018 and they've been hitting the live circuit pretty hard over the years. Now in 2023 they have dropped a well-written 9-track album in ‘Blackened Dawn’ with world-class sound. Lyrics are clever and vocal lines are very memorable. Then just when you start to relax to soak up the melodies you get blasted with some very cool riffs accompanied with a super tight engine room.
With the album release freshly out and currently touring Australia, you get the feeling Triple Kill are full of beans and motivated to give it a red hot crack. For fans of tons of various heavy styles from melodeath to prog, thrash and nu metal, it is delivered super professionally and is totally worth checking out!
